Meet, engineer Namita Sharma, Founder of Dehradun (India)-based Godwit Khadi, a startup with passion for khadi, and that too without any textile background. Started recently, Godwit Khadi is a small organization which is 100 per cent into khadi. Namita recently participated at its first ever international sourcing fair and talked to Apparel Resources, “I’ve always had interest in fashion and strong fashion sense too. Khadi business was my father’s dream so I was enthralled about this step.”

She further added, “People across the world are still not aware about Indian tradition and culture; khadi and its benefits. Similarly in India it has faded away, although there is enough scope in this segment. Being handmade, khadi has such a nice feel, and fur doesn’t tear as well. Indian apparel exporter Fusion Clothing to expand its capacity

There are very few dedicated Indian apparel exporters that are completely into organic and one of them is Fusion Clothing Company, Mumbai. Out of its total manufacturing capacity, 95 per cent is organic clothing and now it is further expanding its capacity by 50 per cent.

Shishir Goenka, Founder of the company told Apparel Resources, “Currently we are producing almost 50,000 pieces per month and after the expansion, it will be 75,000 pieces per month. It may take maximum three months for expansion. This increased capacity is for existing as well as new buyers.” Once the added capacity will be functional, the company is expecting at least 35 per cent growth.

Bangladesh’s apparel exporter Esquire Knit mulls business expansion

Esquire Knit Composite, one of the leading apparel exporters of Bangladesh, is planning to invest BDT 576 crore in business expansion. Of the amount, BDT 340 crore will come from local and foreign loans, while BDT 86 crore will come from the company's own funds and the rest BDT 150 crore from the capital market, a company official informed.

The company will use ‘book building method’ to raise BDT 150 crore from the capital market. Book building is a process through which an issuer attempts to determine the price to offer for its security, based on demand from institutional investors. The apparel supplier even organized a roadshow in Dhaka, the capital city of Bangladesh, on 18 April as part of its Initial Public Offering (IPO) plan.

Bangladesh’s Fortis Garments to open two more facilities

Fortis Garments, one of the renowned garment exporters of Bangladesh, is going to open two more factories soon, one of which would be for woven products exclusively and the other for denim, to be set up at Rajendrapur (close to Dhaka) and Chittagong, respectively. The construction work is on in full swing for both the units.

“The new factories will produce denim and other woven garments and there might be sports item and ladieswear added later on,” maintained Sazzad Hossain, General Manager of Fortis Garments while speaking to Apparel Resources.

Fortis Garments Ltd. was built in 2010 in Gazipur with production capacity of 600,000 pieces of various kinds of garments monthly. Besides, garment, Fortis also has a packaging unit.

Tukatech’s apparel solutions boosting Brandix India’s efficiency

Some of the retailers have even announced stores closure and are filing for Chapter 11. As the EU market is already not doing well and now US is also showing sluggishness, both of which are traditional and core markets for India, apparel exporters are getting concerned. Indian apparel exporter Aaris Exim focusing on multiple fronts

Jaipur-based apparel and home furnishing house Aaris Exim is moving ahead on multiple fronts. The company has shifted its markets, and is focusing more on in-house production. It has even moved its factory into a bigger space. Once its primary market, Aaris Exim now just exports 10 per cent to Japan, and rest 90 per cent to the US, France and Spain.

In the apparel business from past three decades, Ajay Solanki, owner of the company said, “It was not very difficult for us as we were well aware of the markets, and hard work and consistent quality have always been our focus. Our new unit is spread in 10,000 square yards of area; this will allow us to be well organized.”

Labour shortage pushes India Today Fashions to start factory in Gurgaon

Though Jaipur (India) is a cost-effective garment manufacturing hub, especially when compared to Delhi-NCR, but labour shortage is an issue there which forced India Today Fashions, an apparel exporter based in the region, to start a new unit in Gurgaon (Haryana).

CTA Apparels seeks to increase fabric sourcing

Noida (India)-based garment manufacturer and exporter, CTA Apparels Pvt. Ltd., is geared up to increase its fabric manufacturing capacity through its vertically integrated textile mill. Currently, the company is producing approximately 1,00,000 metres of woven fabric per month and further aiming to increase it by three times over the next two months to make it around 3,00,000 metres per month.

Located at 35 kms away from its garment manufacturing unit, the textile mill of the company has been in operation for more than 3 months now and dedicated towards the elimination of process loss due to unavailability or late delivery of fabric.

TEA explores possibilities to set up garmenting units in Odisha (India)

Garment manufacturers in the nearby areas of Tirupur (India) are exploring more investment opportunities to set up new manufacturing units in Odisha. A delegation of Tirupur Exporters Association (TEA) recently held discussion with Balakrishnan IAS, Chief Development Commissioner, Chitra Arumugham IAS, Textile Secretary, Subroto Bagchi, Skill Development Corporation Chairman, Bhubaneshwar and TEA General Secretary T R Vijayakumar about the textile park project and the State Government's textile & apparel policy.

During the three-day tour ,the delegation also visited the Ramdaspur, the place where textile park is being set up and observed the facilities offered. They also toured TITCO Industrial Corporation, which allocated 70 acres of land for the textile park in the state with the availability of water, power supply and road amenities.

Pan Brothers to set up new factories

Indonesia-based textile and garment exporter Pan Brothers has announced an investment plan of US $ 35-37 million for 2017. “US $ 30 million from the capex is allocated for construction of Eco Smart factory while remaining will be used for the maintenance of existing factories,” said Anne Patricia Sutanto, Deputy Director of the company.

There will be two new factories under PT Eco Smart Garment Indonesia in Central Java, to be finished later this year. The installed capacity will be 21 million pieces of garment and the production will start in 2018. “Our total capacity now is 90 million pieces of garment each year, with the addition of this plant, it can increase the capacity of 21 million pieces of garment each year, bringing a total of 111 million pieces per year,” Anne added.
